Kuramae is one of Tokyo’s top cafe towns, with countless stylish and unique cafes to explore. With so many great spots to choose from, you may find yourself wondering where to go next.

This time, I visited Atomiyosowaka, an all-vegan and gluten-free cafe in Kuramae.

I had heard of the cafe before because of its unique name, but surprisingly, I had never actually visited. As someone who wants to explore every stylish cafe in Kuramae, though, this was definitely a spot I couldn’t miss!

You may be wondering:

  • Where can I find a good vegan and gluten-free cafe in Kuramae?

  • What does vegan and gluten-free food actually taste like?

  • Can I get the food to go?

If you have any of these questions, you’re in the right place.

I visited Atomiyosowaka and enjoyed brunch there, so in this post, I’ll share my experience, including the atmosphere, menu, flavors, and takeout options.

If you’re looking for a cafe to visit in Kuramae, keep reading!

1. Looking for a vegan and gluten-free cafe in Kuramae?

If you’re looking for a vegan and gluten-free cafe in Kuramae, Atomiyosowaka is a great place to visit.

As soon as you step inside, the large symbolic tree catches your eye. The tree was originally cut down as part of efforts to restore the healthy cycle of the forest and has been given a new life here, reflecting the cafe’s hope for the regeneration of nature.

The cafe offers sweets that can be enjoyed by everyone, including people with wheat or egg allergies, vegans, and those with various dietary needs. Everything is made with carefully selected ingredients, making these treats a more mindful choice.

The name “Atomiyosowaka” is said to be a phrase used as a charm when searching for something you’re looking for. Perhaps the sweets everyone had been searching for were here all along.

On the ground floor, the counter is lined with an array of baked sweets. The cafe is committed to using organic ingredients whenever possible and making its sweets without preservatives.

Upstairs, the seating area is bright and spacious, making it a comfortable place to sit back and enjoy your time without feeling rushed.

One of the highlights is the Kuramae-exclusive Brunch Plate. You can choose either two or four deli dishes, then select your main from three options made with okara—cornbread, carrot cake, or banana bread—or a rice-flour bagel.

With so many options to choose from, you can create a brunch plate that suits your taste.

2. What Does Vegan and Gluten-Free Food at Atomiyosowaka Actually Taste Like?

When you hear that a cafe doesn’t use any animal-based ingredients such as butter, eggs, or milk, you might wonder, “Can it really taste good?”

I used to have the same question. I had always associated vegan and gluten-free sweets with being a little dry, crumbly, or simply not as satisfying as regular baked goods. Honestly, that was exactly what I expected before visiting Atomiyosowaka.

But the first thing that surprised me when I walked in was the sheer variety of sweets on display.

The counter was filled with muffins, sticky bread, breads, donuts, and cookies. There was even cola! Everything looked so cute and stylish that I found myself having a hard time deciding what to try.

And then came the best part: actually tasting them.

To my surprise, there was none of the dryness or crumbly texture I had expected. The sweets were moist, satisfying, and genuinely delicious.

What I loved most was that I didn’t feel like I was compromising on taste just because the sweets were vegan and gluten-free. They were simply delicious in their own right.

And because they are made with carefully selected ingredients, you can enjoy them while being mindful of what you put into your body—without feeling quite so guilty about treating yourself.

My idea that “healthy sweets must be a little boring” completely changed after visiting Atomiyosowaka.

Even if you’re not vegan or gluten-free, this is a place where you can discover just how delicious these kinds of sweets can be.

3. Can I Get the Food to Go?

Yes, you can!

I loved the cornbread that came with my brunch plate so much that I decided to take three kinds of sticky bread home with me.

All three are vegan, gluten-free, and almond-free, with the pleasantly chewy texture that rice flour is known for.

The cornbread is packed with sweet corn. The corn is finely ground and mixed directly into the dough, giving it a naturally sweet flavor as well as a fun, slightly textured bite.

The banana bread is made without spices, making it mild and easy for kids to enjoy, too. It has a soft, chewy texture and a gentle, comforting flavor.

The carrot spice bread is packed with carrots and spices, making it a great option even if you’re not a big fan of vegetables. The generous amount of spices adds a lovely depth of flavor.

All three are surprisingly satisfying and more filling than they look.

I took them home and enjoyed them with my family for breakfast the next morning. I loved being able to enjoy these wholesome treats at home, too.

So if you find something you love at Atomiyosowaka, you can always take it to go and enjoy it later!

My Experience

I stopped by Atomiyosowaka for brunch after a hair salon appointment.

If you’re dining in, simply order and pay at the counter, then pick up your food and take it to your seat yourself.

The second floor is bright and spacious, with plenty of natural light coming through the windows. The space has a relaxed, natural feel, with dried flowers and other simple decorations adding to its cozy atmosphere.

For brunch, I ordered the Brunch Plate (¥1,450).

It comes with a green salad, two deli dishes of your choice, and your choice of bread, making it a surprisingly satisfying meal.

The deli dishes I had included falafel made with plenty of green beans and chickpeas, along with marinated radishes. Everything was flavorful and packed with vegetables.

I especially enjoyed the cornbread. It was filled with plenty of sweet corn, giving it a pleasant texture and a gentle sweetness.

I was also surprised to learn that the entire meal was made without any animal-based ingredients such as butter, eggs, or milk.

I also ordered an Oat Latte (¥780), which was ¥100 off when ordered as part of the drink set.

If you’re not sure where to go for a cafe in Kuramae, I definitely recommend stopping by Atomiyosowaka.
