I’m Not a Fan of Overly Sweet Crepes—But Here’s Why I Fell in Love with Anna’s Crepes in Asakusa

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of overly sweet crepes.
They may look cute, but sometimes I can’t finish them to the last bite.
In Asakusa, when I see sweets that feel very “touristy,” I often find myself hesitating.

Maybe you feel the same way.
“Will the whipped cream be too heavy to finish?”
“Aren’t crepes basically the same wherever you go?”
“Will the staff be friendly and easy to order from?”

The place that gently answered all of these questions for me was Anna’s Crepe in Asakusa, where the owner, Anna-san, carefully makes each crepe by hand. After visiting myself, I truly understood why this little shop is loved by both locals and travelers.

In this article, I’ll guide you as your “friend in Asakusa,” sharing tips on how to fully enjoy your experience at Anna's Crepe and easing any concerns you might have!

With mostly counter seating, the shop has a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to stop by—even on your own.

Goma's Tips for the Perfect Anna's Crepe Experience

Even if it’s your first visit, keep these three points in mind to make sure your experience goes smoothly.

1. Will the whipped cream be too heavy to finish?

The first thing that truly impressed me at Anna’s Crepes was the whipped cream.
Even though it’s made with fresh, high-quality cream, it feels surprisingly light.
It still has a rich, milky flavor—but without being overwhelming.

I actually stopped by after lunch, yet it never felt heavy or too rich. I enjoyed it all the way to the last bite, without feeling overly full. In fact, I even caught myself thinking, “I could probably eat another one.

Because the cream itself is so good, it brings out the sweetness and acidity of the fruit toppings beautifully.  The whipped cream stands out, yet it remains light and easy to enjoy. If you’ve ever thought, “Crepes are too much halfway through,” this place might change your mind.

2. Aren’t crepes basically the same wherever you go?

One of the things that sets Anna’s Crepes apart is the variety on the menu.
From sweet crepes to savory meal-style crepes, there’s plenty to choose from—and browsing the menu is part of the fun.

The sweet crepes are colorful and charming, almost like edible bouquets.
You’ll find everything from simple crepes made with just batter and cream, to fruit-topped options and even Mont Blanc–style crepes.

English menus are available, which makes ordering simple and comfortable.

For savory lovers, the most popular item is the signature Wagyu Sukiyaki Crepe, topped with a rich egg yolk and tender Japanese black beef that melts in your mouth.

From the quality of the ingredients to the thoughtful presentation, you can really feel Anna’s attention to detail in every crepe. This is the kind of place that makes you realize crepes aren’t “all the same” after all.

3. Will the staff be friendly?

Anna’s Crepe is run entirely by the owner, Anna-san, on her own.
When I visited, she had a large number of pre-orders and was clearly very busy, yet she still greeted customers with a warm smile and gentle care.

It’s easy to see why so many people become fans after just one visit— her kindness and positive energy are truly memorable.

The shop also offers a fun and unique experience called the “10-Second Challenge.”
If you can stop a timer at exactly 10 seconds, you win a crepe for free!

I gave it a try myself, and it turned out to be much harder than expected. It made me want to try again and again. Moments like this turn a simple dessert stop into a special Asakusa memory. If you visit, don’t miss the chance to aim for exactly ten seconds and give it a try.

My Experience

This time, I tried the Strawberry Crepe (¥1,200) and the Strawberry & Banana Crepe (¥1,200)

Each crepe is carefully made one by one by Anna-san herself. Watching the crepe batter carefully cook in front of you builds a quiet sense of anticipation and makes the wait feel special.

The Strawberry Crepe is almost too cute to eat — it looks as if strawberries are blooming like a flower. The Strawberry & Banana Crepe is topped with a delicate, handmade butterfly cookie, crafted individually with care. Both crepes are decorated with edible flowers, giving them an elegant and eye-catching finish.

Inside the generous amount of cream, there are also cookie pieces hidden within, adding a fun texture and keeping every bite interesting until the very end.

My mother and I also tried the famous 10-Second Challenge.
I stopped the timer at 9.53 seconds — a bit too fast…

My mother, on the other hand, got 10.01 seconds. So close!

At Anna’s Crepe, it’s not just about enjoying a delicious dessert — it’s about the experience itself.

From beautifully crafted crepes to playful moments like the 10-Second Challenge, a visit here becomes a warm and memorable part of your time in Asakusa.
If you stop by, be sure to enjoy both the crepes and the challenge.
