CAFE MEURSAULT: A Stunning Riverside Café in Asakusa — Enjoy a Luxurious Moment with a Sumida River View

CAFE MEURSAULT is a popular riverside café located along the Sumida River.
From inside the café, you can enjoy stunning views of the Sumida River, Tokyo Skytree, and the iconic Asahi Beer Headquarters—scenery that truly captures the spirit of Asakusa.
Enjoying a meal while watching water buses glide along the river is a special experience, offering a calm and relaxing moment away from the crowds.

A charming, exotic-looking building

However, when you hear that it’s a popular riverside café along the Sumida River, you might wonder:
“Do I need a reservation?”
“What kind of menu do they have?”
“Will I be able to get a window seat?”

Don’t worry. I’ve visited this café twice—once for lunch with my family, and another time on my own for tea.

In this article, I’ll guide you as your “friend in Asakusa,” sharing tips on how to fully enjoy your meal at CAFE MEURSAULT and easing any concerns you might have!

Goma's Tips for the Perfect Asakusa CAFE MEURSAULT Experience

Even if it's your first visit, keep these three points in mind to make sure your experience goes smoothly.

1. Do you need a reservation?

As this is the popular café, it can get busy during lunchtime and afternoon café hours. Weekends and public holidays tend to be especially crowded, so if you’d like to secure a seat, it’s best to call ahead and make a reservation.

When I visited for lunch on a public holiday, I called the day before but all reservation slots were already full. However, I arrived right at opening time at 11:00 a.m. and was the first in line, and I was able to get a window seat on the second floor.
By the way, there is also seating on the third floor, which offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere as well.

On another visit, I stopped by for tea on a Sunday. This time, I didn’t make a reservation, but I was seated right away. The weather was lovely, so I chose a table on the terrace, which was a nice bonus.

2. What to Order?

The lunch set, enjoyed while overlooking Asakusa’s landmarks, is simply delicious.
With around 15 options to choose from, the lunch sets are both stylish and hearty.
Each set comes with soup, salad, bread, and a choice of coffee or tea, making it a great value.

CAFE MEURSAULT also offers a wonderful selection of sweets.
When I visited in September, I tried the seasonal autumn pumpkin pie. It’s made using several different varieties of pumpkin, each carefully selected for its unique flavor, and you can really taste the attention to detail in every bite.

The winter seasonal cakes are apple cheesecake and apple pie. With desserts like these, you really can’t go wrong at Cafe Meursault.

(Seasonal menu items may vary depending on the time of year.)

English menus are available, so you can easily order by pointing at the items.

3. Not just window seats: how to enjoy the riverside view

From the large windows inside the café, you can enjoy views of the Sumida River from almost any seat.
If you’d like to sit by the window, it’s a good idea to make a reservation and let them know in advance. On a nice day, the terrace seating is also highly recommended.
Enjoy a relaxing tea time while feeling the gentle breeze.

My Experience

For lunch, I ordered the following:
Lunch Set (including soup, salad, cake and drink)
- Roast Beef with bread ¥2,900
- Prosciutto Ham Sandwich ¥2,400

The roast beef was tender and authentic, with horseradish adding a nice kick.
The prosciutto sandwich, made with beautiful green bread, was packed with fresh veggies, and the salty prosciutto was just perfect!
The set also included soup, salad, cake, and a drink—What a treat!

For tea, I ordered the following:
- Pumpkin Pie (¥750)
The pie is dense, and when I cut into it, it crumbles perfectly!
The natural sweetness and rich, soft, and fluffy pumpkin are delicious✨
Paired with cream, the pumpkin flavor really stands out.

They offer a wide variety of seasonal dishes, so there’s always something new to enjoy every time you visit.
The moment you see the stunning view from inside, you’ll find yourself saying “wow!” without even realizing it.

It’s a welcoming place for everyone — families, friends, couples, and even solo visitors.
The café is also open for dinner, which means you can enjoy a completely different atmosphere in the evening, with beautifully lit views compared to the daytime.

A perfect place to take a relaxing break while exploring Asakusa. It’s definitely worth a visit.
