Asakusa Udon: Open from 7 AM to 9 PM! A Hidden Udon Spot That Opened in October 2025

Asakusa Udon opened in October this year, just a short walk from Asakusa Hanayashiki.
Open from 7 AM, it’s a convenient spot for breakfast before work or school, or for guests staying overnight in Asakusa. It’s also easy to stop by for lunch or dinner between sightseeing
a convenient spot to keep in mind during your Asakusa trip.

This restaurant was created by local residents of Asakusa who wanted to run a business in their hometown and give back to the community.
Based on the philosophy that “the town nurtures its people, and the people nurture the town,” they decided to open the restaurant here in Asakusa, a neighborhood visited by many international travelers.
To help visitors from around the world experience Japanese food culture, they selected udon as their dish of choice.

However, when you hear about a new udon restaurant, you might wonder:
“What kind of menu do they have?”
“What if the menu is only in Japanese?”
“What if I don’t know how to order?”

But don’t worry. When I visited, I saw many foreign visitors dining there.
Because it has only recently opened, it’s still a hidden udon spot where you can enjoy a relaxed meal.

In this article, I’ll guide you as your “friend in Asakusa,” sharing tips on how to fully enjoy your meal at Asakusa Udon and easing any concerns you might have!

Goma's Tips for the Perfect Asakusa Udon Experience

Even if it's your first visit, keep these three points in mind to make sure your experience goes smoothly.

1. What kind of udon dishes are there?

Japanese udon is actually a very simple and easy-to-understand dish.
First, you choose between hot udon or cold udon. Some of the most basic and popular options are Kake Udon and Bukkake Udon.

Kake Udon is a simple and classic udon dish, with freshly boiled noodles served in plenty of dashi-based broth.
Bukkake Udon, on the other hand, is served with a more richly flavored broth compared to kake udon.

There are also many other varieties, such as Udon topped with egg or meat, or Udon served with tempura. (At this restaurant, tempura and Udon are ordered separately.)
You can also have fun customizing your Udon with extra toppings.

The menu includes English descriptions, making it easy to order.

2. How to order

When you enter the restaurant, you can easily place your order using the multilingual ticket vending machine.
Simply follow the on-screen instructions to select your items, purchase a meal ticket, and hand it to a staff member. Even first-time visitors will find the process straightforward.

At the moment, payment is cash only, but the restaurant plans to introduce cashless payment options in the near future.
If you have any trouble using the machine, the staff are friendly and happy to help.

The display language can be changed to English from the “Language” option on the screen.

3. Recommended Menu

According to the staff, the most popular dishes among foreign visitors are Beef Shigure Udon and Sukiyaki (Wagyu) Udon.

Both feature generous portions of sweet and savory beef, creating rich and satisfying bowls.
When mixed with a soft egg yolk, the flavors become even deeper—it’s the kind of dish that makes you think, “I’m really glad I tried this in Japan.”

My Experience

Here’s what I ordered ✨
- Beef Shigure Udon – ¥1,580
- Kake Udon (Hot) – ¥650
- Assorted Premium Tempura – ¥1,000
- Soft-boiled Egg Tempura – ¥250

Beef Shigure Udon is the most popular dish at the restaurant.
The sweet and savory simmered beef pairs perfectly with the egg yolk, coating the noodles beautifully. It’s a rich, satisfying bowl that really stands out.

Kake Udon has a light, comforting flavor with a bonito-based dashi broth, so you can fully enjoy the firm, chewy noodles. In Japan, simple options like Kake Udon or Bukkake Udon are very popular, and adding extra toppings or tempura is highly recommended.

The assorted premium tempura includes shrimp, squid, and chicken, making it a filling side to share. You can enjoy it with your Udon, letting the tempura soak up the broth, or sprinkle it with salt to enjoy the natural flavors of each ingredient.
The Soft-boiled Egg Tempura is perfectly soft-boiled, with a rich, runny yolk that’s absolutely delicious.

Chili powder, salt, and sesame seeds are available at each table, so you can adjust the seasoning to your taste.

Adding tempura crumbs (Tenkasu) to Kake Udon is also highly recommended.

Asakusa Udon is a welcoming spot where even first-time visitors to Japan can enjoy Udon with ease.
The menu and ordering process are easy to understand, the interior is new and clean, and the staff are kind and helpful.
Open from breakfast through dinner, it’s a great place to add to your Asakusa dining list.
