Asakusa Manos: A Local Favorite and Long-Established Russian Restaurant Since 1969

Just a 2-minute walk from Kaminarimon, “ASAKUSA MANOS” is a long-established Russian restaurant that first opened in 1969.
It’s a beloved local favorite, and one of the classic restaurants in Asakusa that I’ve known since I was a child.

But when you hear “a long-established restaurant in Asakusa,”
you might wonder:
“Is it hard to walk in if it’s your first time?”
“I’m not familiar with Russian food, so I’m not sure if I’ll like the flavors.”
“Are there specific manners or ways to eat Russian dishes?”
It’s totally understandable to feel that way —
but don’t worry. This restaurant is a true local favorite, and one my family has been visiting since I was a child. It’s warm, welcoming, and the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy authentic Russian cuisine without pressure.

In this article, I’ll guide you as your “friend in Asakusa,” sharing tips on how to fully enjoy your matcha at ASAKUSA MANOS and easing any concerns you might have!

Goma's Tips for the Perfect Asakusa MANOS Experience

Even if it's your first visit, keep these three points in mind to make sure your experience goes smoothly.

1. Is it comfortable to dine alone?

Because of its long history and classic atmosphere, you might think,
“It looks a bit formal… maybe it's difficult to walk in alone?”

But no need to worry. The staff are kind and welcoming, and whether you’re visiting for the first time, dining solo, coming with family, or enjoying a date, you’ll feel comfortable here. Once you're seated, the calm atmosphere and warm service will help you relax and enjoy your meal.

2. What to Order?

Most of the menu is in Japanese, but an English menu is also available.

If you’re visiting for dinner and aren’t sure what to choose,
I highly recommend ordering the “Manos Course.”

It includes their signature dishes — the creamy pot pie soup and the original cabbage roll — making it the perfect way to enjoy Manos' most popular classics. ✨

Here’s what the course includes:

① Appetizer: Seafood Salad

② Soup or Starter (Choose one):

- Creamy pot pie soup

- Borscht soup

- Keseran (Fried potato prawn)

- Crab Croquette

③ Main Dish (Choose one):
A. Original Cabbage Roll
B. Beef Stroganoff
C. Keseran & Scallops with Sea Urchin Sauce or Crab Croquette & Scallops with Sea Urchin Sauce
D. Filet Mignon Steak
(Option: You can also change it to Rolled Beef or Chaliapin Steak.)

Price: A–C: ¥5,500 (tax included), D: ¥6,500 (tax included)

④ After-meal Drink:

Russian Coffee or Russian Tea

3. No rules — enjoy it your own way.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure how to eat Russian food — you’ll be fine.
You can dip the bread, enjoy it together with the soup, or eat each dish separately.
Just relax and enjoy it at your own pace.

They use bread from Pelican, a famous bakery in Asakusa.
The bread is steamed, and the milky butter makes it even more delicious.

Whenever I visit Manos, I always buy pirozhki to take home. Just reheat them, and you can enjoy the same amazing Manos taste at home — I love that.
You can also get dishes like cabbage rolls and beef stroganoff to go.

My Experience

My top recommendations are the creamy pot pie soup and the original cabbage roll. The soup is rich and flavorful, with melted cheese hidden inside—absolutely delicious. And the cabbage roll is so tender that it melts in your mouth.

And don’t forget the signature Russian Coffee and Russian Tea after your meal.
The coffee comes with sugar around the rim of the glass — and it's delicious!
For the tea, the classic way to enjoy it is by adding jam.
For me, the meal isn’t complete without one of these!

Since Manos is a popular restaurant, making a reservation by phone is recommended if you want to secure a table.
They offer not only Russian dishes but also a variety of Western-style options, so both children and adults can enjoy their meal.
If you’re in Asakusa, this long-established local favorite is definitely worth trying — don’t miss the chance to experience its classic flavors.
