4 Ways to Get from Asakusa Station to Kaminarimon Gate!

Asakusa is one of Tokyo's most popular tourist spots. Asakusa Station is served by four lines: the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Toei Asakusa Line, Tobu Line, and Tsukuba Express. Here, I'll guide you step by step on how to get to Kaminarimon Gate, so even first-time visitors can find their way easily while learning the differences and features of each line.
According to station staff, many international visitors use the Tokyo Subway Ticket, a great unlimited-pass option. It’s available online or at the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, making it especially convenient on days when you plan to travel a lot.

1. Tokyo Metro Ginza Line

The Ginza Line is one of Tokyo’s oldest subway lines — just look for the orange line and the “G” symbol. It passes through major stations like Shibuya, Ginza, and Ueno, so it’s super convenient. Of all four lines, the Ginza Line’s Asakusa Station exit is the closest to Kaminarimon Gate, only about a one-minute walk!

The nearest exit to Kaminarimon Gate is Exit 1.

Inside the station, you’ll find mikoshi (portable shrines) and murals unique to Asakusa on display.

Around Exit 1, there’s an elevator and coin lockers — just a heads-up, they only take cash.

Follow the signs and go up this staircase.

This is what you’ll see when you come out of Exit 1.

As you come out of Exit 1, you’ll see "TokyoRickshaw (浅草人力車)" right ahead. Just take the street to its left and walk straight for about a minute — you’ll spot Kaminarimon Gate on your right!

2. Toei Asakusa Line

The Toei Asakusa Line is a convenient route for reaching Asakusa directly from Haneda and Narita Airports without transfers. Look for the red line and the “A” symbol.

For those with suitcases or large bags, Exit A2b is the most convenient.
After coming out of the elevator, cross Namiki Street diagonally to the right and walk straight for about five minutes — you’ll arrive at Kaminarimon Gate!

Follow the path straight ahead to reach Exit A4.

There are many stairs on the way to Exit A4, and it’s quite a walk. If you have large luggage, I recommend using Exit A2b with the elevator.

After exiting Exit A4, go straight to the right.

You’ll reach a main street like the one in the photo. Turn left here and walk straight — Kaminarimon Gate will come into view on your right.

Right outside Exit A4, you’ll find luggage lockers. There are also lockers inside Asakusa Station on the Toei Asakusa Line, but they can fill up quickly, so these are convenient too (coins only, 100-yen coins accepted).

According to station staff, if these lockers are full, nearby places like “Karaoke-kan Asakusa Kaminarimon(カラオケ館浅草雷門店)” or “Jidaiya(時代屋)” can also hold your luggage for you.

3. Tobu Line

The Tobu Asakusa Station is located inside the shopping complex “EKIMISE.”

You’ll find the ticket gates after entering through the main entrance on the first floor and taking the escalator up.

According to the station staff, many visitors often ask how to get to Nikko from Asakusa — and actually, you can go there directly on the Tobu Line!

The ticket gates for the Tobu Line are on the second floor. First, exit through the main gate and go down the stairs right in front of you.

There are signs guiding you to the Asakusa Line and the Ginza Line.

Go straight outside and cross the crosswalk on your right.

After crossing the crosswalk, head left and you’ll see “Kamiya Bar(神谷バー),” Japan’s first Western-style bar. Turn right at the corner and walk straight for about 2–3 minutes to reach Kaminarimon Gate.

4. Tsukuba Express

The Tsukuba Express (TX) is a relatively new line that opened in 2005. Its Asakusa Station is located a bit away from the Ginza Line, Toei Asakusa Line, and Tobu Line stations, about a 10-minute walk from Kaminarimon Gate. It offers easy access to the Oku-Asakusa and Nishi-Asakusa areas, making it convenient for visiting calm cafés and local shops.

For Senso-ji Temple, Kaminarimon Gate, and Nakamise Street, take Exit A1.

There are storage lockers inside the Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station.
You can pay with cash or IC cards (such as Suica or PASMO).

Take the escalator up.

Turn left after exiting from Exit A1 (toward Kokusai Street).

Walk along the main street, Kokusai Street, for about five minutes.

You’ll see this sign — turn left here.

After turning, you’ll enter a covered street. Walk straight ahead for about five minutes,

and you’ll see Kaminarimon Gate on your left.

How was that? Asakusa has four “Asakusa Stations,” each with slightly different locations and atmospheres. By choosing the station that best suits your destination or the area you want to visit, your sightseeing in Asakusa can be much more comfortable. Enjoy the streets and shops along the way, and experience the charm of Asakusa!
